Alt Eigheach Habitat Improvements Project

29th October, 2024

Rannoch and District Angling Club have been undertaking habitat restoration at the Alt Eigheach river, with support from PKC's Nature Restoration Fund.

The Alt Eigheach Habitat Improvements Project focused on restoring riparian woodland along the Alt Eigheach river to combat riverbank erosion and minimise sediment washout. A total of 21 large and 20 small planting compounds were constructed to facilitate the growth of native trees, significantly contributing to the health of the Tay Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and supporting nature network delivery.

The restoration efforts will help reduce water temperature, creating a more favorable environment for aquatic life. As a result, invertebrate populations are expected to thrive, providing an essential food source for fish species like salmon and trout. These improvements not only bolster local biodiversity but also enhance conditions for recreational angling, benefiting the community.
